The Online Astrophotography Competition.

Problem Statement

This is an online astrophotography contest for all the stargazers out there. The contest will run from 1st February 2020 to 1st March 2020. The participants can submit a maximum of 2 entries that they have clicked. The entries will be posted on our Facebook page and Instagram. The likes and shares of the entries till 5th March will be counted. Participants will be required to send their submissions to team@astrax.in. The photographs will be judged both on the technical aspects and their popularity on social media.

Timeline

  • This is an online astrophotography contest. It begins on 1st February, 2020.
  • The likes and shares up until 23:59 hrs IST, 5th March, 2020, will be considered for each submission.
  • Participants must submit the images latest by 23:59 hrs IST, 1st March, 2020.
  • The results will be announced on 15th March, 2020, during the closing ceremony.
  • The results will also be displayed on the website astrax.in

Judging Criteria

The photographs will be uploaded on STAC's Facebook page and STAC's Instagram within a few days of your submission. 80% of the total points will be decided by the judges according to the following factors with given weightage:

Concept and technical excellence 20%
Composition 35%
Exposure and post-processing 25%
Overall Impact, Creativity and uniqueness 20%

Remaining 20% weightage will be given to the Instagram likes, Facebook reacts and shares.
Here's the marking scheme:
  • 1 point for each like on Instagram.
  • 1 point for each like on Facebook.
  • 2 points for each wow react on Facebook.
  • 3 points for each love react on Facebook.
  • 5 points for each share on Facebook.
Please note that,
  • Auto likes will not be taken into consideration and the entry may be disqualified.
  • You cannot share the same photo on the same group/page/wall twice.
A percentile will be taken to calculate the total score out of 20.

Rules and Regulations

  • Camera Resolution should be at least 3.2 megapixels.
  • In photo editing, global editing, photo-morphing, manipulations, local editing, photo stacking are allowed provided everything used for the manipulations has been clicked by the participant himself/herself. Participants need to submit both the final image (in JPEG or JPG format) and the raw images used to make the final image. In case of stacking participant can send all or 10 images (whichever is lower) taken at different intervals to cover the whole span.
  • Participants have to send their entries to team@astrax.in with the subject name as “ShootingStar_<Name of the participant>”.
  • Kindly mention your Facebook and Instagram handles in the mail so we can tag you when we upload the photographs. Also include your name, contact number and college/organization.
  • Participants have to submit an overall description of the photo (not exceeding 50 words), in .pdf or .txt format.
  • The photographs will be uploaded on STAC's Facebook page and Instagram within a week of submission.
  • Any sign of plagiarism will lead to disqualification.
  • Any picture submitted which is not relevant to the theme of astrophotography will be disqualified.
  • In case of any dispute, the decision of the organizing committee will be final.
